Gunnar's history among the kindred is one written in ash and blood. Serving as an Archon Quaesitor to Justicar Karl Schrekt from the late 1800s til Justicar Schrekt's replacement by Anastaz Di Zagreb in 1998, Gunnar was responsible for dealing with matters of occult significance for the justicariate. Be they the actions of mortal Nazi occultists coming too close to awakening what they had no chance of lulling back to sleep in the 1940s, to squaring off against Sabbat Blood magi during Crusades, his unlife was one spent dealing with one bizarre threat or another, and often dealing with it in a way which he referred to as "in a box or in a jar". And then, come 1998? He retired.
A matter of some discussion, it's rumored that he stepped down to take a position of higher prominence within his clan. Which begs the question, with his recent appearance in Chicago, is Gunnar there to serve the interests of Clan Tremere, the interests of the Justicariate....or perhaps his own agenda? And which of those three possibilities is the most potentially troubling?
